Director Bryan Singer announced today that The Newsroom actress Olivia Munn will be joining the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse as Betsy Braddock, AKA: Psylocke.
Her powers have changed over the years, but Psylocke is first and foremost a telepath. From the early days of the character she was able to read and control minds, astral project, subdue and tap into other mutant’s powers, change people’s memories, project mental illusions, and generate psi-bolts. Eventually she actually acquired the body, skills and personality of a Japanese female ninja known as Kwannon. Psylocke has made an appearance in the X-Men films before. Mei Melançon portrayed the character as one of Magneto’s followers in X-Men: The Last Stand, but the role was very small.
Munn joins previously announced newcomers Lana Condor, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, Ben Hardy, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp and Oscar Isaac, as well as returning stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrrence and Rose Byrne.
X-Men Apocalypse hits theatres on May 27th, 2016.
