Details and Trailer for “Star Wars: Battlefront”

I don’t know how they do it, but somehow the Star Wars franchise seems to constantly break the rule of video games based on licensed products. That rule is of course that short of a few exceptions (Like Star Wars or Resident Evil), movies based on games are bad, and games based on movies are bad. You can only imagine my excitement knowing that one of my favourite Star Wars games of all time is getting a threequel. EA revealed details today about Star Wars: Battlefront, including a trailer, a release date of November 17th, and pre-order perks!

For the unfamilar, the Battlefront games are first person shooters, that take place during the various battles from the Star Wars movies, pitting the Rebelion against the Empire or the clones against the droids, depending on where you’re at in the story. They used to work on a class based system, but apparently the new one will have a partner system in which you can spawn together and share weapons. The Battlefront games also feature a “Hero Mode”, which awards a playable hero to a strong player.

The trailer shows some Endor action, which is reminiscent of my favourite map from Battlefront 2. If you’re wondering why it’s my favourite map, it’s because I’m a psychopath who enjoys slaughtering Ewoks.

Can you blame me?

Can you blame me?

I have fond memories playing the first two Star Wars: Battlefront games. Battlefront 2 was actually the first console video game I ever played online, running an ethernet cable from the back of my PS2 Slim directly into the router. Hopefully the new one can live up to the titles before it.

Those who pre-order the game will get an early look at a new map pulled right from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Here’s some more details from the official press release:

Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront will be among the first players to experience the Battle of Jakku, the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet on the Outer Rim. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Players who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront can fight the battle one-week early starting on December 1, 2015. All other players will get access to this free† content on December 8, 2015.

Star Wars Battlefront will be available in North America on November 17 and starting November 19 in Europe for the PlayStation4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and on Origin for PC. About Drew Comerford (151 Articles)
The youngest student to ever be accepted to MIT (7 years old) Drew was a certified child genius. Unfortunately his other organs, limbs...basically everything were nowhere near as powerful as his brain. Drew in a desperate attempt to match the power of his body to that of his mind started experimenting with different animal organs and appendages. Some worked out, and some...not so much. The team takes great pleasure in replacing Drew's parts (which he loses regularly in battle) with the most obscure and useless replacements they can find. Drew is not a fan of this ongoing tomfoolery.
