“Captain America: Civil War” Cast Announced

The cast of the next big Marvel team up movie has been announced, and that team up isn’t an Avengers title, but the next Captain America movie. We’ve all been hoping and praying to whatever Thunder Gods we believe in that when they do the famous Civil War story from the comics, that it would be done right, and it totally looks like they are going to. Pretty much everyone is back.

  • Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
  • Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
  • Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
  • Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
  • Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
  • Paul Bettany as The Vision
  • Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
  • Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine
  • Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch
  • Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man
  • Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther
  • Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13
  • Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo (which has not yet been confirmed by Marvel, but revealed by Brühl himself)
  • Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones
  • William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross
  • Martin Freeman (Rumoured to be playing Everett K. Ross)
  • …Spider-man?
Asa Butterfield, potentially the new Peter Parker (Best known for his title roles in Hugo and Ender's Game)

We all know Spidey is making his debut to the official Marvel Cinematic Universe in this film, but the official casting announcement hasn’t been made yet. Last we heard Asa Butterfield was the frontrunner of a group of five young actors up for the role.

There are a few other noteworthy things from this casting announcement. Jeremy Renner is back for this one? ***MINOR AGE OF ULTRON SPOILER*** Did anyone else get the feeling that Avengers: Age of Ultron was going to be his last appearance? He basically rode off into the sunset on a white horse with his beautiful family.

William Hurt is reprising his role from The Incredible Hulk, yet no mention of Mark Ruffalo in the cast, or of the General’s daughter Betty Ross, played by Liv Tyler.

Paul Rudd making his first team up appearance as Ant-Man, which is probably good news, depending on how his first solo movie goes this summer. They must have some faith in the character portrayal if they’re planning on putting him in a team up movie so soon. Personally, I love Paul Rudd and totally expect him to be an excellent addition to the MCU.

Yes, we realize that this is not actually Matt Murdock, it's actually Danny Rand (Iron Fist) disguised as Daredevil. It's still a really cool moment.

Still waiting on confirmation of Charlie Cox, which would just make this movie absolutely perfect. Daredevil is a pretty key character in the original comic. The panel to the right is one of my favourite moments from the Civil War comics- and yes I realize that it’s actually Danny Rand, AKA Iron Fist dressed as Daredevil, but it would still be such a cool moment to see on screen, and Cox is an incredible Daredevil. We would all love to see him on the big screen with the other heavy hitters.

Either way this cast is stacked, so hopefully Captain America: Civil War makes up for the pretty mediocre Avengers sequel.

Civil War hits theatres May 6th, 2016.
